Being one of so called “The New Your Five” – a promising group of young top residential architects in Miami (him and Peter Eisenman, Michael Graves, Charles Gwathmey, John Hejduk) Meier paved his way into architectural stardom by designing the Getty Center in LA. Currently, Meier’s firm is running numerous projects from Shanghai and Tel Aviv to Berlin and Paris.
Richard Meier is heavily influenced by the mid 20-th century architects. Le Corbusier is one of those apparent influencers. The color white is Richard Meier’s main inspiration and architectural signature. The white rooftops of Mediterranean villas contrasting with the ultramarine blue of the sea and cypress green of the hills – that the ultimate vision, which Meier is trying to reconstruct in the boundaries of the urban environment.
